chicken

Female chickens, timed for egg production, are immunized via intramuscular injection with your antigen. At day 49 of the protocol, 7 days of egg collection begins and the animals are placed on rest pending your testing results.

Each set of 6 eggs will average approximately 500 milligrams antibody per animal. Additional eggs may be collected as the hens will lay approximately 1 egg per day. The antibody can be purified via several common methods, but our proprietary precipitation methodology is most effective. The clarity of the resulting purified antibody reflects the high quality of the purification.

You will receive two sets of 6 egg yolks from your project. If you want the IgY purified, please order the purification separately (see related items).

We will need 1 milligram of your antigen to complete the 2 animal protocol. Immunoaffinity purification or protocol extensions may require additional antigen.

Day Procedure

1 1 egg pre-immunization. Inject 0.5 ml antigen mixed with 0.5 ml Complete Freund's adjuvant.
14 Inject 0.5 ml antigen mixed with 0.5 ml Incomplete Freund's adjuvant.
28 Inject 0.5 ml antigen mixed with 0.5 ml Incomplete Freund's adjuvant.
42 Inject 0.5 ml antigen mixed with 0.5 ml Incomplete Freund's adjuvant.
49 to 56 Collect at least 6 eggs.
Can continue to boost/bleed indefinitely based on your needs.
Note that chickens have a finite egg production of roughly 15 - 18 months.

When the project is completed and eggs are collected, the project will automatically go on maintenance at $92.00 per animal per month unless you instruct us otherwise.
