The Baculovirus system is one of the most preferred and verstaile system for expresssion of recombinant proteins and it offers the following advantages.

1. Safety: Baculoviruses infect specific host insects and are essentially non infectious and are considered very safe to humans and plants.
2. No helper cell lines or viruses needed: The baculovirus genome contains all the complete genetic information necessary for propagation in insect cell lines.
3. Ease of Scale Up: Since the baculovirus is propagated using insect cell lines, many of these systems are already tested and amenable to suspension culture and scale-up using bioreactors.
4. High levels of soluble protein expression: In many cases the recombinant proteins that are expressed in the baculovirus system are found soluble. Obtaining soluble protein expression is ideal for many downstream applications such as crystallography and for those where the activity of the protein needs to be maintained.
5. Accuracy: Many of the post-translational modifications are correctly done in the baculovirus system.
