Description:
Avidin is a basic charged glycoprotein present in the egg white and in some extent in tissues of various animals. Avidin is a homotetrameric protein that contains 4 identical subunits which bind to Biotin with high extent of affinity and specificity consisting of 128 amino acids and has a molecular mass of about 67K Daltons.
Avidin-Biotin is a modified form of affinity purified avidin that combines the high affinity specific activity of the native egg white avidin to biotin molecule together with a very low background of the streptavidin produced by the bacteria Streptomyces avidinii.
Synonyms:
Avidin, AVD, AVID.
Applications:
Avidin-Biotin may be used in combination with biotin in various techniques such as ELISA, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry etc….
Solubility:
We highly recommended to prepare a 1 mg/ml solution; Reconstitute using cold deionized pyrogen free water and mix gently until powder is completely dissolved.
Formulation:
Salt-free lyophilized powder with no preservative added.
Stability:
Store protein solution at 2-8 °C.
Activity:
Binding activity of Avidin-Biotin is 10-15units/mg protein.
One unit of Avidin activity is defined as the amount of protein which will bind 1 µg d-biotin.
Physical Appearance:
Lyophilized freeze dry Powder.
Advantages:
1. Avidin-Biotin does not exhibit unwanted non-specific binding that have been previously reported for the native egg white avidin.
2. The non-specific properties of Avidin-Biotin have been tested in ELISA, Western Blot & Immunohistochemistry techniques and have been found to be superior to unmodified avidin.
3. Avidin-Biotin rarely affected by pH values between the range of pH-2 to pH-12 or by guanidine-HCl concentrations up to 8M at neutral pH.
Usage:
Denovo Biotechnology's products are furnished for LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY. The product may not be used as drugs, agricultural or pesticidal products, food additives or household chemicals.
